You Said We Did

The student voice plays a pivotal role at AECC University College and it is one of our strategic aims to 'provide an outstanding student experience for all', developed in partnership with our students.

As a result of previous feedback from students, we’ve recently made the following enhancements at AECC University College:

  • Assessment and feedback –  we have enhanced the assessment submission and feedback process with the adoption of Turnitin
  • Time tabling – this is more consistent and there is clearer communication if changes need to be made
  • Shift patterns – we have introduced shifts for students in clinic which allows for better time organisation between placement and academic study
  • Equipment investment – we have invested in chiro benches, new models and clinic equipment,  physiotherapy benches, medical simulators and gym equipment
  • Supervision – we have increased our student : staff supervision ratios on clinic shifts
  • Room and facility access
    • we have opened the skills labs and seminar rooms for private study outside of class times
    • we’ve also provided access to MSc Physiotherapy and MSc Sport Rehabilitation and Therapy students to lower mezzanine to further enhance their practical skills though engaging in more practice
    • we have reopened the bar, café and games room
  • Education delivery – additional technique sessions are being offered and we are continuing to deliver the curriculum in a blended manner

Professor Kevin McGhee, Deputy Vice chancellor at AECC University College, reflects on the past 12 months:

“At AECC University College, student feedback is incredibly important to us. The institution has a supportive structure in place where students can feedback to Student Reps, Heads of Schools, Course Leads, Tutors and the ASU, on any concerns or suggestions for improvement, and I am delighted to see so many positive improvements have been made over the last 12 months due to this feedback.

“Some changes take more time to develop, such as phase two of Turnitin submission or VLE archive access; we are working hard on these behind the scenes. The smaller group teaching and VLE content introduced in October was well received and shall continue into semester two. Better consistency and publication of the timetable was also a major improvement for this academic year.

“I would encourage students to continue feeding back to the institution, and I would like to thank our Student Reps, the ASU and our staff for the important part they play in listening to our students and making positive change happen.”

If you wish to provide further feedback regarding your student experience at AECC University College, there are a number of ways to do so - you can speak or email your Course Leads or Tutors, your Student Reps, your Head of School or the Students’ Union.
