Students in Lecture Theatre

On Wednesday 20th March, we held our first AECC University College Student Engagement Conference. The theme for the day was ‘Sharing Best Practice in Student Engagement’ and all students and staff were welcome to be a part of it.

The day began with the Student Engagement Strategy theme updates, hearing from each of our theme working groups about the progress they have made and the next steps. This included:

  • Student-Staff Partnership
  • Student Voice and Representation
  • Student Engagement in Quality Assurance
  • Student Experience
  • Inclusivity and Belonging

It was great to hear from Tom Lowe, Chair of the RAISE Network (Researching, Advancing & Inspiring Student Engagement) and Senior Lecturer in Higher Education at the University of Portsmouth, who presented on ‘Creating Student-Centred Universities Through Prioritising Student Engagement and Belonging’. Thank you so much, Tom, for joining us and for sharing your knowledgeable insights.

The programme also included:

Sharing Best Practice in Academic Settings:

  • Engaging with students: What is important to students and what does best practice look like in radiography
  • Student-led initiatives; peer development

Sharing Best Practice in Extracurricular Settings:

  • Reciprocal mentoring between Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic students and Senior Leaders at AECC UC
  • Stand up and be counted: Engaging with your Library
  • Building an effective Staff and Student Partnership

A BIG thank you to everyone who contributed to this event, from our Student Services and Wellbeing, Students’ Union, Access and Participation, and Library Services teams. It was wonderful to see students and staff coming together in this way, and we move forward with reflections, pledges, and next steps.
