Student-Led Teaching Award Winners 2020
We are delighted to announce the winners of this year’s Student-Led Teaching Awards at AECC University College.
The Student Led Teaching Awards (SLTA) are held each year and give students the opportunity to recognise the exceptional contributions made by both teaching and professional services staff at the University College. The awards highlight good practice in teaching and help create a positive experience for both staff and students.
Nominations and votes for these awards were cast remotely, with students voting online for their winners.
The winners were as follows:
Award for Scholarly Development
Winner: Pete Miller
Pete was recognised for ‘going the extra mile’ to ensure students were completely comfortable in diagnosing and looking after patients. He was also praised for the enthusiasm with which he teaches classes and his engagement with classes.
Award for Practitioner Development
Winner: Jon Cook
Jon was described as a ‘positive person’, who is helpful, approachable, and very thorough when giving information. One student said: “He always offers extra information to allow you to continually improve your practical skills.”
Award for Professional Development
Winner: Melanie Craig
Students described how Melanie ‘does a lot for students’, always putting in extra effort to ensure that students understand what they are learning and always ready to help.
Award for Professional Services
Winner: Lou Andrews
Lou was praised by students for being a great help and support to them and for going above and beyond. She ensures that students are kept well informed in the case of lectures or timetables being changed.
SU Manager at AECC University College, Rhianydd Haslock, said: “Although we couldn’t present the awards in person this year, we were really pleased to recognise some amazing members of staff. As a small and friendly campus, students at the University College enjoy a good relationship with members of teaching staff and professional services staff are approachable and happy to help.
“This makes such a big difference to the learning experience and is more important during the COVID-19 outbreak than ever. Our teaching staff continue to go the extra mile to ensure students feel confident in their studies and to inspire them to go on to follow careers they will love after graduating. It’s fantastic to see.”
