Life on Campus – Student Blog

As we all navigate a new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have social distancing and safety measures in place at all times on campus here at AECC University College.

We caught up with international Second Year Master of Chiropractic student, Jimmy Ng, to find out more about his experience of life back on campus. He tells us more about starting Second Year in the midst of a pandemic, staying active and the positives that he has taken from the experience:

“As I’m sure you know, this academic year contrasts a lot with what students are used to due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The structure and flow of classes has changed; people aren’t able to hang out and eat lunch together, play pool or shoot hoops at the gym.

“We have transitioned to many classes being fully online, but everyone seems to be doing a good job dealing with the changes.”

Reassurance of the guidelines

“With all the new guidelines and social distancing rules in place, I find that I am less worried and anxious about the risks of being exposed to the virus. All the tutors and teaching staff have been very helpful and patient with us.

“I appreciate that our tutors are always ready to receive feedback and are always making sure that we get the best education that we can possibly receive in these challenging times.

“Being able to pop into Student Services or the library and get support on virtually anything is equally helpful. I urge everyone to take care of their mental health and wellbeing, especially in times like these.”

Staying Active

“As a huge basketball fan, I used to be able to pop into the gym and train until my legs gave out and play socially every Tuesday night with my friends. It’s gutting not being able to do your favourite sport or workout, but I have realised that you can always try something new.

“I tried out volleyball at the beach, doing HIIT workouts at home and absolutely enjoyed it (not the day after though). I guess if the pandemic hadn’t happened I wouldn’t have found out that I enjoy volleyball, so the lesson I have learned throughout the pandemic is that there are always bright sides to everything.”

Welcome to New Students

“For the new students that have just joined the AECC, welcome to Uni! I hope you are still able to enjoy your student life and have as much fun as possible. It is important that you understand this pandemic (hopefully) won’t last throughout the duration of your Uni life, so it’s nice to be patient and understanding to your friends and tutors!”
