AECC University College Celebrates Graduation 2018
The next generation of health professionals celebrated their achievements on Friday 16 November, as they graduated from AECC University College, Bournemouth’s specialist University College for Health Sciences. The University College awarded nearly 150 qualifications in total at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including students who completed the institution’s flagship Master of Chiropractic degree.
AECC University College’s Principal, Professor Haymo Thiel, led the proceedings, and emphasised that the University College’s graduates have a unique professional identity and a set of values and principles that will allow them to continue their quest for lifelong learning and aid them in distinguishing themselves in their chosen career.
Principal, Professor Haymo Thiel commented: “This was a particularly poignant graduation ceremony, as it was the first time we were conferring our own degrees as a University College. It was a wonderful occasion to celebrate the achievements of our undergraduate and postgraduate students, and to see them ready to embark on what I’m sure will be a fulfilling and rewarding career.”
Since 1965, the Institution has become a distinctive and expert provider of education, clinical training and research within the field of health sciences, graduating professionals with the knowledge and skills that are highly sought by the national and international job market. 100% of AECC University College graduates are in a professional or managerial employment six months after the course, based on recent UNISTATS data; a positive and reassuring message to those going out into the workforce. Graduates holding positions in the private and public sector, as well as their continuation of studies within the health profession, is the best evidence of their academic and professional readiness.
Academic Registrar, Karen Pichlmann, commented: “The graduation ceremony is like a rite-of-passage for our students. They come to AECC University College to learn, develop and grow, and this occasion marks that transformation from student to graduate, and for our graduates, to professional. They are now able to go out equipped to practice in their chosen field. “
The ceremony took place at Bournemouth’s iconic Pavilion Theatre, with music provided by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra whose repertoire was specially chosen to represent the 28 nationalities of the graduating students, with music from their countries. Guests of honour included Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Derek Borthwick and Mayoress, Mrs Dorothy Borthwick. Friends and family travelled from afar to attend the ceremony, with some coming from as far as Japan and Malaysia.
AECC University College offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate study opportunities in the subject areas of chiropractic; sports, exercise and health sciences; and psychology, along with short courses and continued professional development seminars.
