Elouise Ashwin

Lecturer in Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy

Elouise is a Lecturer in Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy, Elouise began working at AECC University College in 2023, obtaining a permanent position as a lecturer in November 2023. Elouise is passionate about sharing her knowledge and developing the future SLT workforce.

Biography

Elouise competed a BSc in Speech and Language Therapy in 2009, graduating from City University. Elouise also worked in Buckinghamshire for 3 years in the NHS paediatric speech and language therapy team.

In 2012 Elouise moved to Dorset and has been working for the local NHS paediatric speech and language therapy service since then. She continues to work part time. Elouise has extensive experience working in mainstream schools, as well as specialist education provisions, community clinic and preschools/nurseries.

In 2014 Elouise set up her own independent practice and had contracts with some mainstream schools in Poole, as well as supporting children and families.

Research interests

The importance of vocabulary in the development of children’s language.
Supporting schools to set up and deliver targeted intervention groups.

Research

Elouise started a research project in April 2022 which is piloting a support schedule for schools in Dorset to set up and deliver targeted language intervention groups (initially a word learning skills group) to primary aged school children. The pilot phase will end in December 2023 and the effectiveness of the intervention and support schedule will be analysed.
