Dr Neil Osborne

As an Associate Professor in Clinical Management, Neil is passionate about mentoring clinical students. He has worked in a number of different settings with his students including a triage, advice and exercise clinic for local GP surgery's; working in sports clinics such as with the medical team at AFC Bournemouth, and taking students to Red Bull F1 racing team.

Biography

Neil Osborne is an Associate Professor in Clinical Management. He graduated from AECC University College in 1991 with a distinction and the prize for best clinical performance. He has a PhD in rehabilitation of the spine, the culmination of a long journey in post-graduate education which began in Prague in the late1990s under the tutelage of Professors Karel Lewit and Valdamir Janda. He is interested in research and has published a number of scientific papers. He supervises research projects at all university levels – BSc, MSc and PhD. He is very active in the profession working as a General Chiropractic Council Test of Competence examining Chair and on the Health Policy Unit for the Royal College of Chiropractors. He has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally, and his academic portfolio includes the role of Course leader for one of the University College’s MSc courses and writing BSc (Hons) Exercise Science & Rehabilitation for Bournemouth University.

Current Activity

Neil is passionate about involving his students in mainstream spinal care in the NHS, and within specific areas of clinical research. He has previously worked in a triage service for a local GPs and is working with his PhD students to investigate wider uptake of chiropractors in this setting.

Areas of Interest

Neil’s interests are aligned with the assessment of how an individual’s body functions in their own environment such that treatment and, moreover, appropriate self-care and exercise can be effectively directed. He is passionate about inspiring people to help themselves with specific exercise and self-care strategies.

Research

Research

Current projects involve looking at the experiences of patients in GP surgeries receiving advice and help from the service that he offers, and he is a supervisor on a PhD from Southampton University looking at similar models elsewhere in the UK and worldwide.

Teaching

Neil teaches in the undergraduate courses aiming to help student clinicians become professionals and also in the postgraduate arena at AECC University College as well as nationally and internationally, on spinal rehabilitation.
