Andrew Goddard, Class of 1993, BSc (Hons) Human Sciences and MSc Chiropractic.
"Every day is a different day, with a variety of challenges and opportunities."
As an 18-year-old boy, I qualified as a horse-riding instructor, where I quickly gained employment and trained at an Olympic event yard in Leicestershire. I subsequently went to work in a yard involving the breaking and training of young thoroughbred event horses. These horses received the benefit of chiropractic care, which was carried out from the local army camp. Their periodic care clearly enhanced not only their performance but also their general demeanour.
A significant riding accident caused me to personally visit a chiropractor, who quickly relieved me from my 3-month ritual of daily headaches. After seeing him further for wrist, knee, lower back and rib pains, he proposed that I retrain as a chiropractor as he saw my keen interest and intrigue, which is where my journey began.
After successfully completing a science access course at 22 years old, I enrolled at the AECC University College in 1993, and graduated in 1998.
The first year, I found incredibly difficult, the second only slightly easier, swiftly and increasingly enjoying my 3rd to 5th years.
During my final year, I was offered several positions of employment, and choosing Norfolk as my destination, I felt that the clinic would allow me some autonomy in progression, with the help of experience and enjoyment. I was initially split between 2 clinics, where I worked for approximately 3 years.
In 2001 I bought a property to live in, and work from, which was approximately 20 miles away from the clinics where I had been working. It soon became apparent that either we would need to reside elsewhere, or the business would need to move to grow. Over the years, we have had several associate chiropractors, many of whom have gone on to run their own successful businesses.
At Anglia Chiropractic, we are currently a team of three chiropractors, a massage therapist, and soon to incorporate a hypnotherapist, who will help us with pain management, together with following his own interests. We are premier clinic in east Anglia to offer K-Laser Medical therapy, which helps with tissue regeneration, reducing pain and inflammation.
We will typically see adults of all ages for a variety of complaints to elite sports athletes, which have included para-Olympic athletes and Norwich City FC players over a 5-year period, to name few.
I have recently attended our 20th year Alumni, meeting up with some friends and colleagues who I have not seen for many years. The friendships that were made at the AECC University College last forever, and it was amazingly just like old times. Current students kindly showed us round the facilities, which have developed tremendously over the years, demonstrating the University College's passion to provide continuing improvements in their education programme.
