Clearing Tips and Advice

We’ll take the stress out of Clearing with some top tips and advice. If you’re worried about the outcome of your exams, or if you’re still considering your university options, our quick tips will help you through the process, so you can make the right decision and find the best fit for you.

Get Prepared

It’s important that you’re aware of your options, so talk to your teachers, parents, friends who have gone to university, and even university admission teams. Combined, they’ll help you understand the bigger picture and talk you through your choices. Avoid any undue stress on results day by having a plan of action ready.

If you’re calling the Clearing Hotline, you’ll need your UCAS Clearing number to hand. Spend some time making notes about why you want to study the course, what you can bring to the University College, and any experience or activities which support your application.

Consider New Options

Write a list of the subjects or areas you’re interested in, then go online and explore the courses and universities that best suit your academic needs and lifestyle requirements. Clearing is your chance to join a thriving community of learners, so really consider what you want out of your experience – you never know, it may throw up some surprising new courses or institutions you’d never thought about before.

Do Your Research

Put in the work before you call your university choices. Go online and read about the courses to gain as much information as you can; it’ll save time and you’ll be able to tick off some of your questions. Some key areas that you should look out for: student lifestyle – does it suit me? Is the content of the course what I’m looking for? How about the facilities and campus? Do I have the right grades for this course?

Stay Calm

Over 65,000 students across the UK found a place through Clearing in 2017, so don’t panic. It’s important to understand if Clearing is the right option for you. Clearing is open from July until September, and though courses may fill up after results day in August, there’s still lots of time to think through your options. In all cases, it’s best to phone our helpful Admissions team (01202 436 375) who will help guide you through the process and answer any questions you have.

Attend an Open Day

Many universities hold open days or Clearing days. Here at AECC University College we have an open day on Saturday 18 August, where you can visit our campus and get a feel for life a student here. Open days offer first-hand experience of learning and teaching; you’ll also get to meet our tutors, speak to current students and explore the local area.
