Overview
Are you a health sciences professional looking to take your career improving the quality of people’s lives in a new direction? If you already hold a minimum BSc degree in a health sciences subject, this two-year full-time degree could be the perfect opportunity for you to build on your existing knowledge of the human body, structure, function and disease, enabling you to register as a qualified chiropractor upon graduation.
Since the 1960s, we’ve been famous for educating chiropractors and we remain world-leaders in the field, known for our teaching expertise and cutting-edge practical facilities. As an MSc Chiropractic student, you will learn about signs and symptoms of disease, pathology and clinical reasoning through a series of clinical cases. Patient contact will be central to your learning experience and from the start of your course, you’ll spend time in our on-site clinic, observing and developing your skills in diagnosing and managing patients. You’ll complete two clinical placements, enabling you to put your learning into practice in a supervised clinical setting.

Master of Chiropractic – MChiro (Hons)
Our Master of Chiropractic (with Gateway Year) course offers a five year route to a chiropractic qualification, providing an additional year to support students with the skills required to progress into the first year of our Master of Chiropractic – MChiro (Hons) course at the AECC School of Chiropractic.

Master of Chiropractic with Gateway Year – MChiro (Hons)
Our MSc Chiropractic course offers an alternative route to a chiropractic qualification with a focus on research, data collection and analysis alongside academic teaching and clinical placement in our on-site chiropractic clinic. This course is for students who have successfully met all learning outcomes at level 6 of the MChiro (Hons) course and may be desirable if you are considering a career in research or academia, or may be preferred by some national associations.

Why study for MSc Chiropractic (Pre-registration) at AECC University College?
The MSc Chiropractic (Pre-registration) is a two year full time course which will develop safe, competent and effective chiropractic clinicians from a pool of individuals representing a range of experiences across the healthcare continuum.
As primary contact practitioners, graduates from the course will need to possess sound clinical reasoning skills, act autonomously and independently in a modern, collaborative healthcare environment, cognisant of the high standards of care expected of them and the many obligations and requirements of professional health provision in the 21st century.
As well as the specialist knowledge and understanding of neuromusculoskeletal health required for chiropractic care, the programme also aims to ingrain graduates with the psychomotor, communication and critical appraisal skills vital for the developing professional. In addition, one of the core aims of the course is to ensure graduates can work effectively with others across the health and social care domain as well as make a valuable contribution to the future development of the chiropractic profession.
The AECC University College is the longest established chiropractic training institution in Europe with over 50 years’ experience in the profession. Our dedicated team of scientists, researchers and clinicians will use your existing knowledge and skills and enhance these to develop the patient assessment and management tools required for professional practice. You will be exposed to clinical practice from the first year of the course in our onsite clinic, reflecting on your own personal and professional development needs.
Structure of study with key unit highlights
The MSc Chiropractic (Pre-registration) will require students to reflect on their own knowledge and identify areas for improvement so a large part of the student’s development will come from their own study. However, you will still attend seminars and clinical skills classes to develop your knowledge and skills of diagnosis and patient management.
Assessment
Assessments will comprise practical skills assessments, clinical portfolios, written exams, coursework and a research dissertation – a piece of original research (or a piece of research).

MSc Chiropractic (Pre-registration) Clinical Placement Units and Clinical Placement Additional Information
Within the MSc Chiropractic (Pre-reg) course there are two Clinical Placement units that are integral to development of the clinical competence and professionalism expected of a chiropractor. These units, and their associated clinical placements, enable you to learn in an experiential manner through authentic simulated clinical experiences and within a supervised clinical setting with real patients, integrating and developing the learning from other units within the course.
As these units each contain a substantial clinical placement, the contact and learning hours for these units are much higher than a typical university unit, but they are consistent with the expectations for experiential learning for first qualification chiropractic courses and their successful completion is a requirement to complete the MSc Chiropractic (Pre-reg) course and register as a chiropractor.

Mustafa joins the School of Chiropractic as a chiropractic lecturer and as the MSc Chiropractic Pre Registration Course Lead. His role will be to assess clinical education to chiropractic and other health professional students across school’s foundation, pre-registration and post-graduate frameworks.

What qualifications do I need?
What qualifications do I need?
Normally a first or second class (2:1 or 2:2) BSc (Hons) degree in a relevant health science-based subject.
Examples of relevant subjects include medicine, nursing, occupational health, osteopathy, physiotherapy, sports therapy or rehabilitation. Other, relevant, degrees may be considered on an individual basis.

If you live in the UK, we’ll need a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (Enhanced DBS) check. It’s standard for all UK students and we’ll be there to guide you through the process once you’ve applied. To gain a place on the course applicants must also successfully undergo an interview process. these interviews will be undertaken remotely via Teams. More information about this process will be provided if/when applicants are invited to the interview stage.
You are required to have an occupational health screening prior to commencement on the course.

International students will be required to pay a non-refundable £1,000 tuition fee deposit to secure their place on the course. These deposits will need to be paid by November 30th 2024 and more details will be provided in your offer email.
