As well as delivering a contemporary curriculum, the course offers the opportunity to gain applied experience and see sport and exercise psychology in action through our on-site Sport Performance Centre. Our academic staff are expert researchers, practitioners, and are engaged internationally with the profession and organisations. Our on-site clinical facilities allow you the opportunity to observe sport and exercise psychology in practice.

Stewart is Head of School for Psychology, Sport and Physical Activity at AECC, and a Professor of Sport and Performance Psychology. He is a HCPC registered sport and exercise psychologist, and BASES accredited sport and Exercise Scientist, with over 15 years’ experience as a consultant psychologist across a wide range of professional/ amateur sports, as well as across a broad range of performance domains.

Structure of study with key unit highlights.
We utilise a diverse range of delivery approaches to maximise learning in individual units. Delivery modes include: seminars, workshops, practice sessions, placement opportunities peer and expert observations, online learning and laboratory sessions.
The course utilises a range of contemporary approaches to assessing learning, whilst also seeking to develop key applied skills and communication approaches. So alongside more traditional dissertation and essay assessments students will also write blogs, produce short videos, engage with social media, write consultancy reports, engage in role plays and debates.

How do I apply?
Applications for 2021 to the MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology course are open through our online application system. You will need to provide your educational history, a personal statement and a satisfactory reference. The deadline for receipt of applications is late August 2021.

What qualifications do I need?
Normally a first or second-class (2:1 or 2:2) Honours degree or professional experience in the area of study.
English language requirements
If English is not your first language we would be looking for one of the following:
- IELTS (academic) overall score of 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in each section
- TOEFL overall score of 100 with minimum scores of 19 in writing and listening, 18 in reading and 20 in speaking
- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree from a UK university
- A completed undergraduate or postgraduate degree which has been taught in a ‘majority English-speaking’ country. These are: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America
We may be able to consider other English language qualifications, so call or email our Admissions team and they will be happy to help. Try to book your language tests as early in the year as you can, just in case re-sits are needed.
