Studying Chiropractic While Playing Professional Football: Ella Pusey’s Student Story
Ella tells us more about how she got started with football, what training with Southampton Football Club is like, and shares more about how she has found studying Chiropractic at AECC University College:
Starting out in Football
“I’ve been playing football since I was three years old. My older brother played and I tagged along. I picked it up at primary school.
“When I was 14 years old, I started training with the Hampshire Centre of Excellence Academy and had the opportunity to play football at Arsenal and Chelsea. Scouts often came to watch the matches and when I was 15 years old, I was called up to play for England for the first time. It was a pretty incredible feeling.
“As part of the call-up, I was invited to a training camp with girls from across the country. These run three or four times a year. I was selected to play for England, but unfortunately injured my ankle and couldn’t play.”
Football and Chiropractic
“When I was having issues with my ankle, I saw a Chiropractor to help me with my recovery. I still see a Chiropractor regularly to support my training. Seeing a Chiropractor is what made me want to study Chiropractic myself; I can see the benefits first-hand.
“Juggling my full-time contract with studying on the Master of Chiropractic degree takes work. I train four times a week with the Club – from 10.30am to 6pm. I get up early and go to bed late to fit everything in. I have to be careful to get enough sleep and I follow a nutrition plan.
“I live at home in Bournemouth and commute to Southampton to train with the Club. The teaching staff at AECC University College are really supportive of me and they give me the flexibility that I need. My friends come to games and support me.
“I am really loving studying at AECC University College. The Master of Chiropractic course is great – I'm learning so much – and the campus has a real community feel, which I love.”
