Professorial Appointment for University College's Director of Research
The professorial appointment of Dr Dave Newell our Director of Research was confirmed recently after a rigorous process of appraisal involving both internal and external academics.
A non-remunerated position, the professorial title serves to recognise Dave’s academic achievements and contribution to the AECC University College over many years.
Dave has held the title of Reader for nearly three years and this is normally a forerunner of an application for the professorial title. The criteria involve significant contribution in three areas including;
- Research and scholarship where leadership in the area of research and scholarly activity is an expectation, both within the AECC University College and externally
- Contribution through learning and teaching activities
- Evidence of impact through professional standing and reputation as additional criteria
The Professorial Panel consisted of three internal and two external professors with references from an additional four further professors and professionals. The Panel were unanimous in feeling that the title of Professor should be granted, and Dave was congratulated by the panel with additional discussion ensuing around his current areas of research.
Dave’s recent strategic plan for research, including application to the UK HE sector-wide Research Excellence Framework 2021 and the instantiation of AECC University College’s PhD programme with a view to gaining Research Degree Awarding Powers (RDAP), is aimed at building wider research capacity and activity at the University College and is an important part of Dave’s professorial role moving forward.
We congratulate Dave on this real achievement; a culmination of a long, unique and on-going contribution to not only the reputation and activity of the chiropractic profession and our School of Chiropractic, but increasingly the wider aims and aspirations of the AECC University College as a whole.
