Introducing the School of Radiology
Following the successful validation (subject to conditions) of our new BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging) and BSc (Hons) Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology) courses, we are delighted to announce an exciting development for the School of Medical Ultrasound at AECC University College.
The School of Medical Ultrasound has been officially renamed to the School of Radiology at the University College – to better encompass our new course provision.
Head of the School, Warren Foster explains:
“Renaming the School in this way better reflects the breadth of courses that we are now able to offer at AECC University College.
“The new course provision for next year includes our newly-validated Radiography Undergraduate degrees, as well as our new Postgraduate offerings in breast, guided intervention and radiography reporting.
“Radiology refers to the study of techniques from X-Rays, ultrasound, CT, MRI , PET, nuclear and proton imaging. This not only houses the current courses but leaves room for our ambitious plans to expand our teaching provision into all these areas in the future years.”
Students studying at AECC University College benefit from being part of a specialist health care community. We are proud to have on-campus Ultrasound, MRI, Fluoroscopy, and digital X-ray for students to learn to take and read X-rays. Students learn using state-of-the-art virtual simulators and clinical training suites.
On campus, we also have one of the very few Open Upright MRI scanners in the country, which is beneficial for patients suffering from claustrophobia, or those patients who may not be able to lay completely flat.
Extensive work has also commenced on our industry-leading Clinical Skills Suite. Brand-new training facilities and medical imaging equipment, costing £350,000, will be available for use by both Radiography degrees courses from September this year.
New equipment includes a high-performance digital X-Ray suite, including a Direct Radiography (DR) room and virtual ward, and a high-tech three-dimensional radiotherapy simulator.
AECC University College also offers a high-quality ultrasound service to healthcare professionals in a number of ultrasound applications.
