Anotidaishe Chabata - Student Profile
Ano is studying on the Master of Chiropractic course at AECC University College and is in her final year. She is also a Student Ambassador.
She tells us more about her motivation for studying Chiropractic, how she has found her time studying at AECC University College and working in the on-site Chiropractic Clinic, and what she plans to do next:
“It feels quite surreal sometimes that I’m in my final year at AECC University College. I’m trying my best to give my patients the best care that I can. It feels like it has all gone so quickly.
“I’ve done the journey with friends that I met back in my first year. It’s nice that we all get to finish together; I’ve made some good friends and I’ve enjoyed the course.”
“I initially wanted to study Physiotherapy but had to go into Clearing and came across AECC University College then. My mum and I thought Chiropractic looked interesting and like something I would enjoy and I decided to go for it.
“There wasn’t time to come to an Open Day as I was based in Bolton, near Manchester and it was a long way to come. I took a leap of faith and it paid off.
“I’m going back home once I graduate. I’ve got a job in a Chiropractic Clinic in Oldham, just outside of Manchester. I’m so excited to start. When I think about it, I just can’t wait! I really loved the team when I met them and the atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity.
“As much as you can learn theory, patient interaction is such an important part of the job. Everyone is different and no two patients are the same. Some patients are really easy to deal with and some are a bit more challenging.
“When I meet patients, I try and clear my head of everything else and focus completely on them. The more people you meet, the easier it gets.”
“I wanted to be a Student Ambassador because I thought it would be good for my confidence and I wanted to share Chiropractic with people at events.
“There also weren’t a huge number of black or Asian people in the community here when I started and I wanted to be a positive representative. When you’re leaving home and moving to a new place to study, you want to be in a place where you feel comfortable.
“I think it’s really helped with my confidence and I have enjoyed the opportunity.”
