Alter-G

Book AlterG at AECC UC. The AlterG is an antigravity treadmill that is used to help people get back to walking or running during their rehabilitation.

What is an Alter G?

The AlterG is an antigravity treadmill that is used to help people get back to walking or running during their rehabilitation.

The Alter G treadmill inflates from the waist down giving you a weightless feeling as you walk or run with as little as 20% of your bodyweight.

By reducing your bodyweight, you are able to comfortably walk or run where you may have not been able to previously.

The AlterG can be used by anyone from top level athletes who are recovering from injuries, to those looking to lose weight, to geriatric, paediatric, neurological patients and everyone in between.

AlterG at AECC

AlterG can be used for a wide range of conditions. We've had people use it to recover from stroke and other neurological conditions, we have also used it to support runners and those recovering from lower limb injuries.

“The AlterG has really helped me with control and helping me to believe that walking is achievable in the future. My hips and ankles feel like they’re getting a good workout, and it’s difficult to get that otherwise.”

Read an interview with Nicole McCarthy, one of our patients who is learning to walk again after a traumatic brain injury.

“The AlterG has helped us for a range of conditions. It's really helped our patients to be able to regain some of their mobility, it's nice to see people mentally develop aswell as physically and to watch their confidence improve.”

- Letitia Rutherford, Sports Rehabilitator.

The AlterG is a specialised treadmill designed to reduce the impact of gravity on the user's body, allowing them to exercise with less strain and impact on their joints.

Testimonials

Nicole on the Alter G with support from her neurological physiotherapist

The AlterG has really helped me with control and helping me to believe that walking is achievable in the future. It makes me feel more upright; like I’m getting a really good stretch with every step. My hips and ankles feel like they’re getting a good workout, and it’s difficult to get that otherwise.

What I’ve learned from my Physiotherapist is to never give up. Getting the right help and seeing someone that you like and trust makes all the difference. My physio is so good that I want to please her and improve for her. She understands what I’m doing and we’re working on my goals together.
