Shelley Blane

BSc, MSc - Senior Lecturer (Radiotherapy)

Shelley is the Course Lead for both BSc Radiography courses. She has a BSC (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography and an MSc in Radiation Physics. She is a HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer and Clinical Scientist with over 27 years’ experience in Radiotherapy.

Biography

Shelley graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiographer in 1995 and completed her MSc in Medical Physics in 2002. During her clinical career, she specialised in radiotherapy planning. She was responsible for planning treatments giving large doses of radiation to the tumour whilst keeping doses to sensitive structures as low as possible. As part of her clinical career, she has been involved in clinical research which improved radiotherapy treatments within the UK.

Since 2006 Shelley has been a Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy, Diagnostic Radiography and Physics and joined the AECC team as the course lead for the new Radiotherapy and Oncology degree in 2020.

Current Activity

Shelley is the course lead for the BSc (Hons) Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology) degree with the School of Radiology which started in September 2020. She is responsible for the day to day running of the degree and for managing units on both the Radiotherapy and Diagnostic degree. She also runs courses in Radiation Protection for all healthcare staff involved in using ionising radiation.

Areas of interest

Shelley’s interests include advanced radiotherapy planning. She is passionate about supporting schools and colleges on the South coast in science education and promoting Radiotherapy.
