Budgie Hussain is currently the Head of School of Medical Ultrasound and the programme leader for the MSc in Medical Ultrasound. He is also member of the Senior Management Group. He is responsible for the management of the centre budget and coordinating and facilitating School of Medical Ultrasound activities in education, training and clinical services in ultrasound.

Biography

Budgie Hussain is a graduate of the University of Portsmouth where he gained his master’s in Medical Ultrasound and later Doctorate in Medical Imaging. Budgie was the programme leader in medical ultrasound at Portsmouth for 15 years prior to moving to Bournemouth in 2007 to set up the Centre for Ultrasound Studies. The last 25 years have been spent in the design and the delivery of a comprehensive master’s programmes in medical ultrasound and short accredited focused ultrasound courses for a variety of healthcare professions; mainly, musculoskeletal physicians, GPs, A&E doctors, urologists, nurses and midwives. Other notable short courses designed and delivered include training programmes for a new workforce for the National Screening Committee in AAA screening as part of the implementation of a national screening programme for England and Wales; early pregnancy training for BPAS and NUPAS organisations and musculoskeletal ultrasound skills for the premier league club doctors.  Budgie's research interest and publications are in the use of 4-D ultrasound in the cessation of smoking in pregnant woman; the use of telemedicine in the education and training of GPs and the use of sonoelastogarphy in the diagnosis of tendinopathy in shoulders. He has successfully supervised at Masters and Doctorate level.

Areas of Interest

Extensive experience in all aspects of medical ultrasound, in particularly abdominal, gynaecology and obstetrics and over 25 years of teaching in higher educational institutions.
