Our Work with Primary Schools

Details of activities we offer for primary schools can be found below. For further information, or to discuss how we can best support you and your school, please contact our Access and Participation Manager, Lisa Bates on lbates@aecc.ac.uk

As we know, some young people will start to think about what they want to be when they grow up as young as 7 years old. We aim to work with Key Stage 2 children from Year 3 upwards to help raise aspirations within the Health Sciences and support attainment in Science and Sport based subjects. We can offer support with a number of PSHE based topics, particularly health and wellbeing.

Guest Lectures

Our anatomy and physiology lecturers can support science learning with guest lectures to fit with the National Curriculum. These can either take place at your school or at the University College, where we have anatomy and physiology resources such as models of body systems to support learning.

British Science Week

As part of British Science Week we run a series of workshops for local primary schools at our University College site, for students to learn about the Musculoskeletal and Cardiovascular systems.

Science Fairs and Activities

We are happy to attend science fairs and activities to support learning about the human body. This year we will be at the Dorset Big Bang Science Festival at the Bovington Tank Museum – look out for us there!

Straighten Up UK (British Chiropractic Association programme)

'Straighten Up UK' is British Chiropractic Association programme designed to help children learn daily exercises to help their posture and look after their back. Our final year chiropractic students can deliver this programme either onsite or at your school to teach your pupils the importance of being active, along with a series of exercises to help them understand and look after their spine.

Fit Friends

Fit Friends is a four-week after school athletics programme. Run in collaboration with coaches from Bournemouth Athletics Club, children will learn throwing skills, jumping skills, running skills and finish with a teamwork based challenge.

Science Roadshows

We can visit your school with an interactive stand all about the human body to bring the National Curriculum to life. This often works well as a follow up to the 'Straighten Up UK' interactive sessions.

PSHE Guest lectures

We can offer careers talks on many different careers in the Health Sciences including Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Medical Imaging and Radiography, Sports Rehabilitation, Psychology and Sports Psychology. Our Health Sciences specialist team can also offer guest lectures on a number of PSHE topics including staying healthy, healthy eating, the importance of being active and more…
