Further Requirements

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure

All applicants who have been offered and accepted a place on the course must undergo an enhanced CRB Disclosure check. Your application form will ask you whether you have any convictions, bind-overs or cautions, and whether you will consent to this check. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 does not allow “spent” offences for healthcare professionals. It is therefore essential that you declare any offences you may have committed, however long ago, and however minor they may seem.

A decision whether or not to offer you a place would be made based on the initial information you give about any criminal convictions, and whether this is liable to affect your suitability for the course. If an offer of a place is made, this would be conditional and could be withdrawn if there are significant discrepancies with information subsequently received from the CRB. It is therefore important that you are both honest and accurate concerning any past convictions. An admission of something will not necessarily stop you from getting on the course, but omitting something definitely will.

The Academic Head of Rehabilitation and Health Science or his/her nominee (usually the Admissions Tutor) reserves the right to refuse admission to the course to any candidate whose check proves to be unsatisfactory.

ISA Registration

This course may involve regular access to children and/or vulnerable adults, also known as regulated activity. Registration for the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) due to be administered by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) has been halted pending review by the Government. However, students should be aware that this may be a requirement at a later date.
