Computing Services
The student computing facility within the library comprises a suite of networked computers as well as scanners and printers. These can be used for word processing, accessing specialised software on CD-Rom, e-mail or accessing a range of internet services via the library's intranet and the Joint Academic Network (JANET) including on-line journals and databases to assist in research.
Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) Laboratory.
The college's CAL Lab, enables students to access software packages in anatomy and radiology, together with The Anatomy Projects tutorials in neuro-anatomy. These packages employ high-quality photographic radiographs and video clips to enable students to perform a virtual dissection of a cadaver, to participate in an interactive neuro-anatomy tutorial, or to view a large number of radiographs with fluoroscopic video clips and anatomical correlations.
Six of the workstations have Medcaps clinical diagnostics software installed. All CAL Lab computers are linked to the internet and the range of tutorial software available for student use is constantly being increased. The CAL Laboratory is open access during normal college hours, unless a timetabled class is scheduled for that time. Students are strongly encouraged to become computer-literate during their course, and time is set aside for learners wanting more information about how the college facilities can assist them in their studies.
The library is staffed by experienced and dedicated staff who are there to assist students in the effective use of all learning resources offered by the college.
Clinic Computer Facilities
The new clinic currently has 20 computers in the student computer room, as well as computers in the majority of treatment rooms. All clinic computers are connected to the Synapse digital x-ray system, and further computers are available with diagnostic quality monitors. Clinic students have access to computerised diaries and patient timetables.
The old clinic building will contain large computing facilities suites helping us to reach our target of the gold standard of 1 PC to every 5 students.
