Community Outreach

As part of the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic commitment to it's local community students and staff from the clinic undertake a varied community outreach programme providing educational talks and events around the subject of health and how to keep healthy. The clinic regularly works with local community groups, schools, antenatal classes, mother and baby groups, sports clubs and charitable organisations helping their members stay fit and healthy. In addition we also support sporting events by providing sports therapy to competitors free of charge.

If you have an event which you think will benefit from our assistance please contact our Community Outreach Liaison Officer Maria Browning on 01202 436213 or email mbrowning@aecc.ac.uk.

Case Study – Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride

AECC students at the Macmillan Bike RideEach year the cancer charity Macmillan organise a sponsored bike ride with routes varying from 15 to 100 miles through the Dorset countryside.  At the end of the ride competitors took advantage of free sport therapy provided by the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic final year students.  Students were able to massage weary legs and provide advice on preventing injuries.  We are able to provide all the necessary equipment including wet weather contingency, treatment tables and expertise all without cost to the competitors or the organisers.

Case Study - National Science & Engineering Week 2009

National Science & Engineering Week 2009National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) was first held as National Science week in 1994 and has grown year-on-year. Last year over 1.4million people took part in over 3,500 events across the United Kingdom.

The AECC is opened its doors to local primary and comprehensive schools on the 11th and 12th of March as well as carrying out school visits during the ten day event. The activity further enhanced the AECC’s work in the local community and is designed to be both fun and informative.

Practical demonstrations and hands-on experiments brought the fields of anatomy, physiology and sports science to life. Local school children were shown how to test reflexes, measure heart rates and listen for electrical activity in muscles, as well as taking part in sports exercise sessions and calculating the speed at which objects can travel. A series of talks also took place, presented by the AECC’s academic faculty.

This is the first year the AECC has hosted activities for NSEW. The college is looking to develop its involvement with NSEW and make the event part of its annual calendar from this year onwards.
