MESOL
Medical English for Speakers of Other Languages
The course runs over six weeks and concentrates on the following curriculum areas:
- 12 unit course book with emphasis on medical communication skills, small-group discussion, reading/ writing tasks, terminology, role play and English grammar revision in the medical environment. Audio visual materials, extra resource material and IT sessions are integral to the course.
- The use of colloquial English in the consulting room.
- Speaking at seminars and medical meetings.
- Weekly case presentations.
- Simulated filmed clinical encounters with peer-group feedback.
- Further study packagaes available on request.
- External visits to NHS institutions.
- Help with CV preparation and making medical applications during the course.
Successful communication is an important benchmark in the MESOL course, which we envisage will be useful for practising physicians as well as qualifying doctors in their clinical year.
