Much of today's research is done in the ivory tower setting of our academic institutions, employing large-scale designs such as the randomised clinical trial. However, there are problems if this is the only research that is done by the chiropractic profession. We need much more research emerging from ordinary field practices. As a clinician, you are best placed to identify the clinical questions that really need to be answered, and you will also be collecting data from patients that are relevant to the real world. With just a little knowledge and enhanced skills, you could be conducting a useful research project in your own practice that does not involve you in much extra time or effort, and you could be publishing it!
This workshop gives chiropractors the opportunity to review all the methods available in clinical research, how to select the best design to answer your research question, and how to analyse your data to find answers.
The workshops will cover:
- Understanding the philosophy of research inquiry and the two paradigms of quantitative and qualitative research.
- How to match your research question to the best design.
- Collecting data in practice settings.
- Analysing numerical data and making sense of literal data.
- Writing up your research study and publishing it.
This workshop is a unique opportunity to brush up on your research skills and help you to make sense of the research of others, as well as conduct your own research in your own practice.
