Clinic Facilities

Intern Teaching Clinic

Our final year Interns work in the clinic under the close supervision of tutors - experienced chiropractors who are all registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC), and are members of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA). All aspects of diagnosis and management of your condition are discussed and reviewed by your Intern and the supervising tutors.

Associate Clinic

The Associate Clinic allows fully qualified chiropractors to use the clinic facilities to run a private clinic.

Faculty Clinic

The Faculty Clinic runs in the early mornings where clinical services are provided by chiropractors who teach in the College. Most have additional postgraduate qualifications and are considered experts in their field.

Satellite Clinic

The AECC also operates a satellite clinic at the Talbot Campus of Bournemouth University on Tuesdays and Fridays. This is available to staff and students at the University, although external patients are also accepted.

Diagnostic Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to demonstrate internal body structures. It is non-invasive, harmless with no radiation hazard and results can be obtained immediately in most cases. Ultrasound examinations are carried out to demonstrate the normal anatomy and pathology associated with body systems. For example, abdominal pains may be caused by the presence of gall-stones, back pains may be caused by the presence of an abdominal aortic aneurysm or kidney problems such as stones or obstruction to the urinary bladder. Ultrasound is invaluable in assessment of the well being of the baby during pregnancy. It is also particularly good at looking at muscle and a tendon injury caused by playing sports and is able to demonstrate blood clots in vessels, such as deep vein thrombosis.

X-Ray Facilities

The clinic has a moderin radiology department managed by a Senior Radiographer. The X-ray department is also busy with referrals from other healthcare practitioners. X-rays are not always necessary and any decision to take x-rays will be taken in consultation with you. We will weigh the risks against the benefits and advise you accordingly at all times.

Fluoroscopy Studies

The Institute for Musculoskeletal Research & Clinical Implementation (IMRCI) is a research centre within the AECC. The Institute’s major area of research is spinal mechanics to further our understanding of the relationship between dysfunctional movement and neck and back pain. One way this research is conducted is with sophisticated digital fluoroscopy and image processing to give continuous inter-vertebral motion data as the person bends, actively or passively.

The IMRCI-developed quantitative digital fluoroscopy known as OSMIA (Objective Spinal Motion Imaging Assessment) is currently used for research only.

Orthotics and Braces

We offer a variety of foot orthotic devices. These are aids to help support an injured or weak ankle or foot. Some are simply fitted from a supply of pre-made items, others are custom made from plaster casts taken here in the clinic. Many of these devices help to correct gait, abnormalities and help to alleviate foot/ankle pain. We also fit a variety of braces when clinically indicated.

Nutritionist

Should your intern consider that you may benefit from a consultation with a registered nutritionist then this can be arranged within the clinic to advise you on your individual needs.

Specialised Medical Consultations

During your initial consultation it may be deemed necessary to have your condition checked by one of our medical practitioners. This consultation will be arranged by your intern.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is available either as a referral from your chiropractic intern or you can book directly with clinic reception.
