Mission Statement

On 26 November 2005 our Board of Governors adopted our new mission and vision statements.

Our mission is to be the world's pre-eminent provider of chiropractic education, training and research as part of a modern healthcare community for the promotion of a healthier society.

During the five year period up to 2010/11 our vision is that AECC will:

  • have built a strong relationship as an independent associate college of Bournemouth University based on trust and understanding for the enhancement of both institutions, as it relates to both students and staff experience and to the benefit of the local community

  • have an extensive network within the context of its mission with links to its national and international partners

  • be an open community committed to widening participation and to educating chiropractors fit to practice and respond to the changing needs of society

  • be the centre for innovation in chiropractic teaching, research and scholarship

We have also identified our core values and as it behoves an institution such as ours these values centre on care and are expressed as follows:

We care about our students and we;

  • listen to what students think about what and how they learn, including curriculum development, teaching methods and appropriate level of support

  • ensure that our services support all our students, whatever their needs

We care about our staff and we;

  • encourage participation and openness, innovation and change through co-operation in a dynamic and flexible environment

  • believe in tolerance and academic freedom

  • will provide equal opportunities for all, identifying and supporting the learning needs of our staff in the context of our mission

We care about an ethical approach to health and the environment and we;

  • promote healthy lifestyle

  • promote a no smoking environment

  • encourage fitness and exercise.

We care about developing and maintaining positive relationships with others, including:

  • our patients

  • our neighbours

  • the local and wider community

  • our academic, collaborative and business partners

  • our competitors

  • the regulatory authorities

By 2010/11 AECC will have achieved a balance between publicly funded and self funded students, and between income from such students and from other activities such as research and enterprise.

Having staked out our future we have now proposed an ambitious expansion programme to our campus.

Plans for a new clinic are being drawn up and we hope to be able to proceed to start building in the 2007/8 academic year. With a new clinic in place we will expand our teaching and learning activity into the "old" clinic building thus improving our facilities at all levels. Together with other plans for the main building involving lecture theatres and catering facilities the cost will be in the region of £3.5 million.

It will be our biggest investment since we moved to our present premises in the early 1980's and an exciting prospect for the college.

We are thus looking forward from a platform of stability, with confidence and with a positive posture for the future.

AECC is an Associate College of Bournemouth University
